Spencer's Gourmet Centre
The inauguration of Spencer's Gourmet Centre, located at 2 Allenby Road, Kolkata, took place on August 7. The centre was inaugurated by Mr Sanjiv Goenka. The theme for the inauguration was a global cuisine tour where the chefs had prepared 20 innovative dishes from 15 different countries of the world. At the Gourmet Centre, the science of food blends with the culinary arts to bring innovation and development of new food products for Spencer's. The Gourmet Centre Research and Development team consists of Food Scientists from varied food processing backgrounds. The culinary team consists of chefs specialising in Indian regional cuisines, patisserie as well as global international cuisines. The key objective of the centre is to establish Spencer's as a preferred food destination through product differentiation and introduction of our private label foods. The capabilities of the Gourmet Centre are new recipe creation, product development, product analysis as well as shelf life testing of all new products created. Quality testing as well as packaging testing will also be conducted here. Here our Specialty Team will be developing signature recipes for all Spencer's bakeries, in-store cafes and private label brands. Research on global cuisines will be an on-going process so that we can sell different cuisine ingredients in our Specialty Bays, as well as demonstrate them in our Chef's Corners. Edutainment research on different cuisines and exotic ingredients will also be a key function. The Centre is headed by Ms Gayatri Kohli. Congratulations to her and her team for creating the Gourmet Centre. To world cuisine and discovering culinary delights at Spencer's.

Metamorphosis
howrah imageJune 29, 2007 the day on which Mumbai city was painted orange. Mumbaikars went crazy on Friday morning. Despite heavy rainfall, the crowd started coming in since morning to our Malad Hyper. It was a splendid turnaround for customers and the store. New look, great decorations, impressive signage, well dressed, friendly staff - et al. The store in its new avatar was inaugurated by Mr Harsh Goenka who was accompanied by Mr Jitu Mehta and Mr Nimish Shah.

CNBC, STAR, SAHARA - the major newschannels covered the event. The press meet was chaired by Mr Goenka. The theme 'Magic' was used for visual merchandising at the store and for promotions in Mumbai city. A magical castle was created at the entrance to give customers the feeling that they were stepping into a fairytale world.

The Hyper now houses the Specialty Bay, Chef's Corner, an amazing selection of international food, cheese, wines and liquor, U.S. Pizza and Rajdhani to provide great refreshment and total edutainment for our customers. The display across sections and product ranges is outstanding and the store sparkles like a gem in the Spencer's belt.

The transformation was not only in the look, but also in the attitude and morale of employees. Concerted efforts were put in by every single person in the Malad store. A lot of support came from the regional and corporate office to train and motivate our employees. It was amazing to see the pride on every CSA's face and the enthusiasm with which they greeted our customers. They had been waiting eagerly for the turnaround and this was the testing ground after a series of learning interventions they had been exposed to: focus groups, training on service, grooming sessions, makeovers, theatre and dance workshops.

Business on Sunday, July 1,2007 was the highest ever figure of Rs 37.83 lakhs. After the success of the relaunch We@Spencer's Malad believe in "Neighbour's Envy, Spencer's Pride."
Then We Brodge Howrah
howrah imageSpencer's marched across the Hooghly river - with daily stores in Salkia, Liluah and Belur. The local crowd had their first taste of organized retail in the area and Spencer's is all set to win their hearts.

With these stores in Howrah locale, Spencer's East now has 12 stores in less than 6 months and is expected to grow from strength to strength. East may be the new kid on the block but it is going places. Now it has 1 Hyper, 1 Super, 7 Dailies and 3 Express stores. But that's not the end of the story. On the anvil, are 2 Hypers, 1 more Super and a couple of new Dailies. And all of these stores will be up and running in the next 3 months.

"Slow and steady wins the race" is of the past. For Gen-next it's a new spin on the old adage. Spencer's east is growing - fast and steady wins the race!
